dog rescue team
We are Julia, Iris and Sveta, volunteers at a dog shelter located in Moscow Region and accommodating more than 400 dogs on a small private territory.
What kind of dogs are these?
– Mostly scooped from streets: abandoned by keepers, homeless due to irresponsible attitude of society, strays traumatized physically or psychologically, intentionally or unintentionally. Healthy and injured, young and old, joyful and sad, with one trait in common – each of them carrying a story of human indifference and betrayal. Most dogs stay in shelter for lives, as the rate of adoption in Russia tends to zero.
What does the shelter look like?
– It’s a shelter in its ancient sense – a place for unwanted and abandoned. Dogs have their portion of food, those lucky have their volunteers come once a week. Still the rows of open kennels are constantly exposed to outdoor temperatures: freezingly cold in winter and exhaustingly hot in summer. Some dogs never go out of their kennels for months and years due to the lack of human and financial resources. Sometimes we rather call shelter life «survival».

What do we do?
– Our main aim is to find a home for shelter dogs. Sometimes it takes years. So, our second goal is to maintain dog health and make the conditions of dogs’ life in shelter acceptable. Sveta goes to shelter on most of her days off – to walk, feed and treat dogs. Lots of shelter dogs need medical support and treatment which is impossible to provide in shelter. Julia is fostering shelter animals and brings those she can’t foster herself to commercial fosters. Accommodated in shelter by 3 – 6 dogs in one kennel some dogs are starting to dominate and others can’t protect themselves fully deprived of any aggression. These dogs suffer most. We try to take out at least those in worst cases. Due to poor shelter conditions volunteers participate in all the aspects of shelter life – from cleaning the kennels to construction or equipment setup and purchase.
– With priceless help of Tierschutz Russland charity organization about 200 dogs from Gav shelter found their forever homes in Germany in the last 5 years. Restrictions and prohibitions of recent years led to a significant decline in adoptions in Germany. These predictable results leave us with almost no hope. This website is our modest attempt made for a better change. So, we are trying to make good pictures of shelter dogs, study their behavior as much as possible, understand and estimate their characters and specific features, and supply the future adopters with the most precise and detailed information. We are always ready to share more information about all the dogs in What’s App private chatting, share additional videos and pictures of a dog up on request.
Our aim is not only finding a home for a dog, but making it a perfect match for a dog and adopters.
